ARDUINO IDE IS ALWAYS GREYED OUT WHEN BEING LAUNCHED

Hello Sir/Madam,

Everytime I launch the Arduino IDE whether it is an existing sketch or a new one it is always greyed out as soon as it is opened. I could not create a new sketch or edit the existing sketch. Any key that I strike would not register in the IDE. Looks like it freezes. However, I can upload the existing sketch and seems to work properly. Any help or suggestions on this matter is greatly appreciated. Also, I tried to uninstall and reinstalled the latest version software several times (also did the same thing to the older versions) but did not succeeded in fixing the problem. Thank you in advance.

Try this:

  • File > Preferences
  • Uncheck the box next to “Use external editor”
  • Click the “OK” button.

Did that solve the problem?

Hello Sir,

That instruction solved my problem. Thanks a lot. Is the "Use External Editor" always checked when you open this Preferences or I accidentally checked it? Thanks again.

Carlos R.

You’re welcome. I’m glad to hear it’s working now. The “Use External Editor” preference is unchecked by default, so you must have accidentally checked it.
Enjoy!
