Arduino IDE - Which is better

(I'M REALLY SURE THAT THIS THE WRONG PLACE OF THE POST)
I'm working on my first project..An RGB LED Fader, using the Adafruit's (Simon Monk's) Arduino lessons (lesson #7)..Soon I will get the parts from the electronic shop that is above of me.It's the time to download the Arduino IDE..I have checked the final version..But the side is very big..And the internet in my country is very slow and it cuts in the middle..Also, does the Adafruit lessons codes work on the lastest version of the IDE or the older..
Also which is better? IDE 1.6.4 or IDE 1.0.5?

Hi,
1.5.5 I have found to be stable and run most sketches.
Others may have different thoughts.

Tom....

The 1.5.5 beta?

If your only using 8 bit AVR's like UNO, MEGA, TINY and not DUO, YUN, TRE & ZERO then the 1.0.6 IDE is fine. I would however recommend you used something like Notepad++ (Windows only) to edit with. I added some Arduino highlight syntax to mine and a run macro to launch the Arduino IDE with current project for compile/upload. The ability to procedure fold (collapse) is very handy as is simple word highlighting.
