Arduino IDE will not open/ Firmware needs updated

After downloading the IDE, I have downloaded two different versions, I attempt to open the program and get an nsis error:

Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installers author to obtain a new copy.

I have downloaded the IDE from the arduino website multiple times on two different computers both with windows operating systems.

I did download the IDE from this page:

https://code.google.com/p/arduino/downloads/list

which I obtained from the Arduino forum under this address:

http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=283038.0

and it works fine on my laptop.

I am just curious why I cant use the most current IDE from the arduino website, its frustrating to have to chase this stuff down to get this product to opperate correctly.

I also have a brand new arduino that I bought from barns and noble, the IDE will not recognize it. My USB port lists it as ATmega16U2 DFU not arduino. which as I understand means that the firmware must be updated. Once again I have to chase information and additional programs down to get the product to operate correctly.

How can I get a new arduino uno sent to me that does not require this additional programming?

Which operating system are you using?

Return it to Barnes and Noble for a replacement.

windows 7 and windows 8

Try the "Windows ZIP file for non admin install" download from:

That way there's no installer so you shouldn't get an installer error.
