Arduino in an oven - LM35 and 433MHz temperature/torture test.

I had this "genius" idea of putting an Arduino Nano with a cheap rf transmitter and LM35 temperature sensor, in an oven.


It's in an aluminium enclosure from Rolec. Powered by 4 AA batteries (which was a bad idea, now that I think about it)
So i crank the oven to full grill mode. In no less than 10 minutes, Max is showing 102° Celsius.

I then filled a whatchamacallit with cold water and reached for the hot aluminium box in the oven.


It sizzled when i dropped it in.... and the arduino, sensor and the rf transmitter still worked! Even tho the metal had expanded which then let the water in.

I didn't log the data unfortunately, there just this graph.
But it did reach ~123° Celsius. It's pretty impressive for a this kind of tech to still be working and sending out bits from inside a relatively thick aluminium case, from an oven, at 120 celsius.

MIssing info, how long was the device in the oven? 10 minutes 20? more?

It was in the oven for 6 to 7 minutes, graphs length is ~11 minutes.

Next time i'll be sure to log everything to the smallest detail, for extra scientific'ness,

You could try putting it inside a clay jar and firing that in a kiln.

The Arduino is subject to 230 Degrees C durung soldering, so it can handle it.

Over time, electrolytics will die, and semiconductors will loose their chemical compounds that make them work.

What kind of oven were you using. If a microwave, all the data is suspect as microwave heating is vastly different then conventional oven heating.
