At the risk of flaunting my ignorance, what does Arduino have in common with the Cocos? I was aware of the fragrance of Chianti, not lager!

There are a lot of small nations that have sold off an interest in their top-level domain names. Examples: Cocos Islands, Christmas Island, Tuvalu, and so on. The registrar companies offer the domains to anyone for a fee, regardless of the actual country of origin. It's often easier to get nice short domain names from these registrars. Rather than having to deal with "thearduinoproject.com" they can go with "arduino.cc". I did this years ago for my personal website and network identity as well.
