Arduino IO Expander and 16x2 LCD Need Help

hi everyone, im fairly new to Arduino, this is my first question,

im trying to connect a 16x2 LCD to an MCP23017 IO expander. im totally lost when i read some examples online, does anyone have any simple "hello world" code that i can take a look at to get me started?
