Arduino malfunction

Hey everybody,

So I am working on the Blink project. I have the correct code and I put the LED pins correctly in the ground and the 13th pin on my Arduino Uno smd. However, I notice that when I run the code the LED does not turn on. Is my arduino broken? Or am I missing a step? Thanks.

An the LED is the correct way round ?
The are like most electronic things there is a positive and a negative side to an LED...
Also what size resistor ?
