Arduino Mega 2560 caught fire and now does not turn on at all.

Hello everybody!

While working on a project for my local science fair I was using an arduino mega 2560 and decided to try powering it using a 12v battery I had recently bought. After plugging the battery into the 5v pin (I now see this was a problem as it was a 12v battery) and the ground it caught fire with in 3 seconds. It now does not receive any power from usb or from 5v pin using lower voltages and it seems one of the parts on the board is completely burned up. I'd like to fix it because right now I can't get another one and I borrowed this one from the school.

Any help would be great thanks!

Unless you have SMD equipment and some slightly more advanced tools such as a scope etc then there is little you can do to fix it.

Sorry for the bad news.
