Arduino mega 2560 not getting detected

hi,
i was working with my Arduino mega 2560 a few days back,...i was trying to run a Nema 17 stepper motor using a mega motor driver shield and 4988a and and external power supply. The motor didn't run but my 4988a driver got damaged.

Now , I also found my mega board is not getting detected anymore though the leds are blinking .

can u tell me what's going wrong...I am new to this field … just need this for some of my projects...…

Thanks in advance,

could only be guesses...

What happened when you fried your 4988a driver ? this could have also damaged the Arduino or even the USB port on your computer

let see the shield & please describe the damage.

with the little info at hand, my gut leads me to ask if the external power supply was turned on / hooked up properly..again, lets see the whole setup, code you tried to run would be good too.

usually when a board suddenly stops registering on a port, but still turns on, you've fried the usb chip on the arduino. I have a bin on of them (mostly megas, oddly enough). I think there is a way to reflash them via the icsp headers, but I never did work it out.

usb port is fine...the cable too.....just the mega is not getting detected...

hard to know. see post #3

I don't have the code... actually after that incident I didn't tried the setup anymore …..but after a week I am seeing the mega is not getting detected.....can u tell me how to reflash it...…there is no sign of external damage on the board or any burning smell too.....

is there any way of replacing the chip ur talking about.....

ok...btw thanks..

If the mega is still running the old code fine but is not being detected as an available COM port on your PC then the FTDI chip is dead you could still flash it with an external FTDI board via the serial0 pins, else if the code is no longer running on the mega then is just easier to bin it for a new one.

probably, I think I should buy a new one …any way thanks.
