I have connected Mega Sensor Shield v-2.0 with Arduino Mega 2560 board. 15 IR sensors were connected for measuring flatness of a material at different points. When connected Arduino Mega with 12v power adaptor, all the shield terminal read 1.33v only. So i removed the jumper from the shield and connected a external 5v power supply. All of a sudden the V pins started reading 10v and now Mega board isnt working. It just lights up, COM ports are not detected. Did i do anything wrong here.
Your topic was MOVED to its current forum category which is more appropriate than the original as it has nothing to do with Installation and Troubleshooting of the IDE
Removed what jumper?
Connected 5 volt were?
Grab pen and paper and make a little schematics of the situation.
If you mean the boards with white and black LED, they draw about 40mA each. The Mega can in theory only supply 500 (USB fuse) - 70 (itself) = 430mA to sensors when on USB supply. On external power that capability is reduced with increased input voltage to about 100mA with 12volt in.
So if you connect more than three sensors with the Mega powered from 12volt, then the 5volt regulator will shut down from overheating if you're lucky. You apparently were not.
The sensors are likely still ok, but I fear for the Mega.
Leo..
I believe this is what happened... thanks for the support..Sensors are good, i checked with external supply...
