Arduino MEGA2560 access on unregulated usb 5V from board

Hi all,

As title I want to ask if there is a way to access to unregulated USB 5V from Arduino MEGA2560 Board. I'm powering arduino from USB and I need to power some LEDs and modules, but arduino board gets really hot, I suppose becouse it's required too much current from 5V regulator on board. There is a way to get 5V bypassing voltage regulator on Arduino MEGA2560 Board?

Thank you!

I hope I'm not wrong about this and the experts will correct me, but according to the schematic, the voltage regulator only runs when you apply external power to the Arduino.
If you power it up from USB you get the 5V from USB, which is limited to 500mA, unless you have a hub.

What exactly gets hot? Which components?
You might need to go to external power.

My MEGA2560 shows up as 100mA device so I don't think 500mA is right.

OP, did you get a mega2560 from arduino.org? WHat voltage is your ac adapter?

Read my post one more time. It says:

Is this thread dead? Where is OP and answers to these simple questions?
