arduino micro with a busted serial converter

hello, i have an arduino micro with a busted serial converter, it gets SUPER hot and all uploads fail, but the rest of it seems fine. if I just desolder it, could i program the micro directly from an uno? Of note is that the micro is a clone, specifically a: LGT8F328P LQFP32 MiniEVB. Or, does anyone know how to troubleshoot a ?shorted? serial converter? i literally don't know what happened as I didn't do anything to it

AFAIK, the LGT328P can't be programmed using the usual techniques; the 328-compatible chip has a different programming mechanism than an Atmel/Microchip part, and I'm not sure what supports it...
