Okay I've read through everything and cannot get my Arduino mini to connect. Every time i plug it in to download the driver the instillation fails. If it helps i have the Mega328 atmel chip. Really need help getting this installed. Thanks!
Did you buy it from Ebay? Does it have the CH340G driver instead of the standard from Arduino?
If yes, you need to download that driver to your computer. Find it on Google, most of the sources I've found are in chinese! However, once installed, it works perfectly fine (in english too) 
Just checked my board and it has the FT323R chip
