Yes, it will work with 0.6" wide, 0.1" pitch DIP socket. BUT, make sure you
USE THIS TYPE:
The Nano pins will not go in all the way, but they are making solid contact.
DO NOT USE THIS TYPE:
Since it appears to use square post headers, wouldn't a couple of 1x16 female headers make more sense?

YES, absolutely right. The best way is to use couple of 1x16 female headers like the below. Digikey P/N S7049-ND.
