Arduino Nano / LED strip setup help

Hello!

Totally a beginner at everything Arduino. I've played around with a Lilypad a few years and have now gotten myself into a project that I think may be too complex for my skill level. I was hoping to get some help on set-up.

Here are the tools that I have:
Duinotech Nano Board
2 m RGB addressable LED strip
400 point Bread board
Arduino compatible breadboard power source
Jumper cables
4 aa Battery pack

Can anyone help with how I need to setup (w/ a schematic if possible) or if I need to purchase additional supplies in order to complete this? I'm aware that I have a slight problem with the battery pack as it's a 4aa pack which won't match the Nano that I have, but I'm thinking of using 4 reusable batteries as the voltage should be slightly lower.

This is the recommended way to wire your circuit:

Read this discussion:

In this case not only will the voltage be too high but also 120 LEDs will consume a maximum of 7.2 Amps on all full white. ( allowing 60mA per LED) which is way too much for both you bread board (1A max) and the batteries.

You will have to limit the brightness in software to keep the current down.

Four Ni-MH batteries should provide a nice 5 V for the Nano, as long as they are not fresh out of the charger. Do not charge them while connected.

You certainly will have to keep the brightness down though.
