Arduino Nano Not Recognized In The Arduino Create Setup

I'm having the same problem also. I am working on a project for an engineering class and my group and I bought a brand new Arduino Nano this year and have taken off the conducting foam. I have connected the Arduino Nano to my laptop using a USB cable, but it will not connect on Arduino Create, nor will the code upload on the Arduino software even though the code compiles. This is the error message that I get:

Arduino: 1.8.9 (Mac OS X), Board: "Arduino Nano, ATmega328P (Old Bootloader)"

Sketch uses 2442 bytes (7%) of program storage space. Maximum is 30720 bytes.
Global variables use 200 bytes (9%) of dynamic memory, leaving 1848 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2048 bytes.

avrdude done. Thank you.

Problem uploading to board. See http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#upload for suggestions.

I am using Arduino 1.8.9 on a macbook air. Other example codes, such as Blink, will not run either. I also tried changing the processor from ATmega328P to ATmega328P (Old Bootloader). If you could help that would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for late reply I only just noticed this was a "create" issue and had to split your post to move it to the correct section.
