Arduino Nano v3.0 12v still stupply 5v ?

Hi everybody !

Today i was messing around with my Arduino nano v3.0 and i just love it its so small !

I was wondering if i plug a 12 volts power supply on the Vin pin of the board, does the nano include a regulater that will still supply 5v or do i need to switch the 12v to 5v outside of the board and then supply the 5v too.

I know the Uno and the Mega does it but the nano is way smaller and with the price of those little bad boys i wanted to be 100% sure befor hooking everything up and fry my board

Thank you very much !!

Yes, the fact that it has a "Vin" terminal mandates that it has a regulator to supply the 5V for its operation.

You are however correct in that the regulator is small, so do not expect to have it supply too much current, including from the I/O pins - 200 mA or so at maximum (and no more than 20 mA per I/O pin).

And since the heat dissipated in the regulator is the difference between Vin and 5V at whatever current, you should minimise this by supplying not 12V, but 9V or a reasonably regulated 7.5V.
