I've been making an audio visualizer using an Arduino Nano V3, I've been uploading it with code and then connecting it to my external power supply. I've been careful to cover the exposed ends with heat shrink to protect them and keep from touching and shorting my board while plugged into the PC. When I plugged my Nano into my power supply it wouldn't turn on, but when I plugged it into my PC it would. I connected a wire from my power supply to the 5V pin to see if my original wire was the problem, and it wouldn't turn on, but when I connected the wire to my VIN it would turn on. I'm not sure what happened, if anyone could help I would be very grateful.
This is my schematic, Sorry for the wire crossing.
Sorry for this monstrosity of a wiring job, pretty much all points have been covered by heat shrink except the ends meant to be connected to my 5v power supply. This follows the schematic with exception that all the points where other wires connect to the 5V and Gnd wire all connect at the same point.
The screw bit touching the red wire is the 5V wire
With no AC to the external supply and the Nano not plugged into the PC.
Use an ohm meter and check for continuity from the external power supply + terminal to the 5v pad on the Nano.
Unfortunately I left my multimeter at home and I'm at college 3 hours away so, that'll have to wait a bit. I was hoping that there may have been a somewhat common issue with something like this happening, but it seems not.
Thank you so much for your time trying to help me.
The LED does turn on when connected to the PC. Assuming there is a bad trace on the board, is there any way to fix this or would this just be considered a loss and I would have to purchase a new board?
