Arduino no power through USB & chip next to USB port getting hot

hey guys!

I just recently bought my first arduino which has worked without any difficulty until now.
When i connect the arduino through USB the "on" LED just blinks a couple of times while plugging in and then it stays low --> no power on my arduino.
Also, i noticed that the small chip next to the usb port with the label "1505" gets really hot. I don't know if it that has anything to do with the usb problem.

Anybody know what the problem could be? do i have to buy a new arduino?

Please let us know how you have connected power to the device.
What model Arduino.

Give us as much info as you can to help us understand what is happening.
