arduino not functioning properly with battery

I was making LOVE-O-METER with the starter kit (Genuino UNO Rev 3).

I uploaded the program and it was working fine when connected to PC, but, when I connect it to a 9V battery, it doesn't function properly. Instead of sensing the temp. all the LEDs light up at once which was not the case with PC. When working with PC the LEDs would light one by one as the temperature rose.

I also tried closing the arduino windows application and restarting my PC but the board still worked fine when connected to PC. However, the spaceship Interface program works absolutely fine even with the battery.

Is there a problem with my battery port/ analog input or am I doing something wrong?

9v batteries are notorious for lack of current. You need a supply that can give more current.
