I recently got an Arduino Uno and ran through the first blinking LED exercise and it worked fine. When I tried the next one with the LED on the breadboard connected to the 5V and ground pins, the Arduino power light turns off and the port is no longer recognized/available. I believe I have the correct drivers updated and the circuit is wired correctly. It still works when I use the built in LED, just not when the power is outputted to the breadboard. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Yep, sounds like you're shorting something out.
I figured it out. The manual that came with the arduino starter kit had a bad circuit wiring diagram. Fixed the issue.
