Arduino not responding to aketches

I have a Arduino Nano V3.0 to which I uploaded a sketch for my project. The sketch got uploaded but is not generating any signals. I checked them with my multimeter at the pins which should generate the voltages but is blank. I have already checked the board with blink sketch and is working fine. However, if I upload anything else the arduino is idle and the led just keeps blinking.
Please help. I've been at this for hours now.

Thanks

Can you make a copy of the Blink sketch and change the blink timing so that it is very obviously different. Then upload the revised program.

If the blink timing has not changed it means that the revised program was not, in fact, uploaded.

Are you sure you are not getting error messages in the Arduino IDE?

...R

Yes. I am not getting any error messages and I have actually changed the timings to be sure myself.
I am using an external power supply with a 5V voltage regulator. When I upload my usual program the arduino just sits and led keeps blinking. Is there a power problem here?

Also, when the board is connected just to my laptop, the output signals are coming but are limited to 2.7V even for digitalWrite high. I guess there is a problem with the power supply but the connections are as simple as they can be. What could be the meaning of blinking led?

And are the changed timings apparent in the revised Blink pattern when the program runs?

If so, it is time you posted the program that is not working.

This is my test code that I'm trying to run on my arduino.

int beaconInput = 5;
int M1_X = 4;
int M1_Y = 6;
int M2_X = 7;
int M2_Y = 8;
int IrRear = A1;
int IrFront = A2;
int IrLeft = A3;
int IrRight = A4;
int IrEmitter = 9;
int servo = 5;

void setup() {
pinMode(M1_X, OUTPUT);
pinMode(M1_Y, OUTPUT);
pinMode(M2_X, OUTPUT);
pinMode(M2_Y, OUTPUT);
pinMode(IrRear, INPUT);
pinMode(IrFront, INPUT);
pinMode(IrLeft, INPUT);
pinMode(IrRight, INPUT);
pinMode(IrEmitter, OUTPUT);
pinMode(servo, OUTPUT);
// put your setup code here, to run once:

}

void loop() {
//objectDetection();
digitalWrite(M1_Y, HIGH);
digitalWrite(M2_Y, HIGH);

}

As you can see there is nothing much in the code right now to begin with. I'm still suspicious about the blinking led. Even after uploading this sketch the led seems to blink however, it shouldn't.

Put something positive in your program so you can know it is working. For example in setup() put Serial.println("myProgramIsStarting");

In my own programs I put the name of the program and if I upload a later version I add A, B C etc to the name just so I can be sure that I hit "upload" rather than "verify"

The problem is not in the code. I have checked it several times. There is some problem with the power source or so to speak the power management of the board. Has anyone any idea as to why the led blinks after powering ON the board even if you have not uploaded the blink sketch or any sketch controlling the led?

A detailed picture of your setup would help.

I will try but even a picture of the setup would not help as the wires are too cramped up to make a sense of them from the digital screen. I would say that I am using a 9V battery and a 5V regulator as an input to which a Arduino nano and a motor driver L293D is connected with some other sensors.

When did the L293 & motor(s) come into the conversation?

  • Unplug everything
  • Load & upload the standard BLINK tutorial sketch
  • The power-on (reset) blink is the bootloader 'ACK' to avrdude - you can ignore it for all intents & purposes.
  • Worth noting is whether or not the TX/RX LEDs flicker for a moment as the upload begins. (This is the actual code upload)

Forget the photo if it doesn't show anything.

Draw out your circuit (schematic) for two reasons...

  • So you have consider every wire & connection, and
  • So we can see what you have connected to where.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.

Please read the first post in any forum entitled how to use this forum.
http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php/topic,148850.0.html then look down to item #7 about how to post your code.
It will be formatted in a scrolling window that makes it easier to read.

Can you please post a copy of your circuit, in CAD or a picture of a hand drawn circuit in jpg, png?

What is your main power supply?
Have you included the capacitors required around the 5V regulator as shown in its data sheet?

Tom.. :slight_smile:

How? You have been telling us it does NOT work.

Strealmer:
and a motor driver L293D is connected with some other sensors.

Why didn't you tell us that in your Original Post?

Make a clear pencil drawing showing how everything is connected and post a photo of the drawing.

It would be VERY helpful if you were a bit more forthcoming with information. I've read this thread with increasing amazement on that part.

You basically do not provide any info. It took several messages for you to just post a sketch (and that not even using code tags). After multiple requests not even the start of a circuit diagram. No compiler/IDE status messages. Just nothing of substance.

You really want help solving this? Then start answering questions!

Will this work?

Will this work?

Please post your photo so we can see it. See this Simple Image Guide

The only difference is an Arduino Nano instead of a UNO

I have tried different combinations. Sometimes it works with the regulator, sometimes it works only without the regulator. Sometimes it works when I enable just one side of the L293D, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. However, the only thing consistent is whenever it stops working, the led keeps blinking continuously.
