arduino on ibook g3 with 10.3.9?

Hi,
a student of mine wants to use her old clamshell g3 with arduino. The arduino software works fine, and when she installs the usb serial drivers she doesnt get any error messages when installing, but after restart there is a message saying that the drivers were installed incorrectly, so only the modem ports show up as serial ports in arduino.
I haven´t been able to find any info which says it shouldnt work.

Which drivers did she install?

There are some troubleshooting tips in the install guide from FTDI: http://www.ftdichip.com/Documents/InstallGuides/Mac_OS_X_Installation_Guide.pdf. I'd check out 4.3 in particular.
