Arduino parallels sketch fails

I am trying to configure an Arduino Uno previously used on a Mac to run in the Windows 10 virtual machine in Parallels on the same Mac (El Capitan). I configured the USB port (FT32R USB UART) to the virtual machine and I see the board on COM3 in the Arduino software. When I try to upload the sketch, I get teh following error repeated 10 times:

avrdude: stk500_recv() : programmer is not responding

Anyone have an idea what this means?

Uno does not use FT232, it has Atmega16u2 programmed as a USB/Serial adapter. Need to get your drivers correct.

Thanks for the help. I have tried several times to change the driver. I uninstalled the Arduino software, then reinstalled iwth the board unplugged. I plug it in and it goes to the FTDI driver. If I try to update the driver by uninstalling the FTDI and then try to update from the Drivers folder, I either get "The hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file" or Windows crashes depending on which way I try to update. Any suggestions??
