Arduino Pro Mini 5v 328 Uploading Problems

I've been experimenting with my Arduino Pro Mini 5v 16hz quite a bit recently and using the Arduino usb2serial adapter. Most of the time things seem ok, but now and again I get programmer is not responding, then I have to force quit (Mac) and restart the computer until it works again. I have made sure on all occasions that these are selected from the tools menu:

dev/tty.usbmodem411
Arduino Pro Mini 328 5v

Is there anything else I should be doing or not doing?

It is most likely loose connection points between the usb2serial and ProMini board. You may need to keep a little pressure on the contact points.
