arduino pro mini soldered direct to 9v cable?

This question is very basic which is making it hard to find an answer.

I have a few pro mini freeduino's (Recommendations For You - DealeXtreme)

I'd like to power with 9v battery. Is there any reason not to just solder straight to the board a 9v wire with the caps to connect direct to the battery?

I've seen these cables connected to the barrels for the uno. Does the uno have some type of protection on the receiving barrel? Is this less of a concern with a 9v battery?

No, not if you wire the +9vdc to the "raw" pin and a wire from the negative terminal of the battery to a ground pin on the pro-mini board.

The uno has an internal series polarity protection diode to prevent damage in case one plugs in a DC voltage source having the wrong voltage polarity, the pro mini has no such protection diode, so be sure to verify correct voltage polarity before you solder to the 'raw' voltage input pin.

Thx. I was thinking VCC, but now that you say so that makes sense that that's what the raw is for now.
