Now I fully understand to term "Arduino shield".
Reminds me of the time someone asked me to help with a USB memory stick. I looked at it and immediately noticed that it was lit up orange. "This doesn't have a power LED. Unplug it now!"

Possibly heat sinks could prevent this? Or limiting resistors?
Or maybe don't point the laser at the Arduino?
