I have not come across [an SSR that switches either AC or DC]. Has anyone else?
Some of the low-current SSRs aimed at signal switching have configurations that handle AC or DC.
See the Clare LCA110, for example. (Inverse parallel MOSFETs) (120mA, 35 ohms. An entirely different beast than what we're talking about here!) (it's also an example of an SSR with no current limiting resistor on the input side.)
