Arduino step dimmer

I was originally planning to use a capacitor to power the arduino or mcu for a few extra seconds after power off but then I gave up on that idea when I heard about the EEPROM.

abandoning the timing element seemed more practical than investing in a few extra components for convenience.

INTP:
If you're turning it off for the sake of saving whatever little bit of current it takes for the Arduino to run and do nothing, I don't think it's worth the EEPROM use.

Actually I'm turning it off because the only control I intend to use is the mains wall switch and I don't want the arduino to run forever when my light setup is off.

Why not?
