Dear All,
I would like to have a standalone arduino with an ATmega168-20PU running at 3.3V.
I followed instructions here: http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Standalone and I used a 8MHz crystal instead of using the one at 16.
I loaded the ArduinoISP sketch into my Arduino Uno, then I connected it to the board like this: http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ArduinoToBreadboard using the 3.3V instead to the 5V pin.
I choose "Arduino Pro or Pro Mini (3.3V, 8MHz) w/ ATmega168" and burned the bootloader successfully.
I was able to upload my sketches to my breadboard arduino with the same connection above using "Upload using programmer" and it was working great.
Unfortunately, now it is not working anymore.
avrdude: Yikes! Invalid device signature.
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.
I double checked connections and are good, I disconnected all not needed wires leaving only the original ones, but nothing.
I have used a new ATmega168-20PU also but the following error message appears when trying to burn the bootloader:
avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x0000
0xff != 0x00
avrdude: verification error; content mismatch
Does anyone has an advice on how to solve this, please?
Thank you
dk
This
"I was able to upload my sketches to my breadboard arduino with the same connection above using "Upload using programmer" and it was working great."
wiped out your bootloader.
Re-burn the bootloader and go back to just Upload to put sketches on.

Dear CrossRoads,
thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately I'm not able to burn the bootloader anymore, I tried several times and always get this error back:
Arduino: 1.0.6 (Windows 7), Board: "Arduino Pro or Pro Mini (3.3V, 8 MHz) w/ ATmega168"
avrdude: Yikes! Invalid device signature.
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.

avrdude done. Thank you.
It looks like the signature is not right.. but I don't understand.
In this post http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?action=reporttm;topic=49183.8;msg=351580 they state it might be the bitrate of the programmer to be lowered, but they refer to AVRISP mkII which I don't have since I use my Uno as ISP.
What do you think?
Thank you,
dk
