Arduino Tricopter

I have been wanting to make a multirotor for some time and I have been having trouble with using remote control with my arduino. I own an Uno and have already experimented with infrared control, but am not getting any results. I am thinking about using radio control instead, but I don't know what kind of receiver or transmitter to get, how to hook it up to the board, or how to code it. Any help is appreciated.

Most people use RC Model transmitters and receivers. HobbyKing sells systems from under $24 to almost $3000: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?cwhl=XX&idCategory=82&v=&sortlist=P&LiPoConfig=&CatSortOrder=asc

My next project

then pick a flight controler

Thanks! Would the HobbyKing 2.4Ghz 6Ch Tx & Rx V2 work?
