Arduino type platform for a PIC processor

Has anyone explored building an Arduino type platform around a PIC processor? My guess is no, because the Arduino software would have to be kept to the Arduino and all new software would be needed to deal with the new chips.

It does not mean that it would not be cool to make the PIC another choice for projects for the masses.

In any case, I thought to ask, since there are so many brilliant people in the Matrix.

What about ChipKit ?

I suspect Atmel MCUs are as good as PIC MCUs so it don’t see any value in the effort of porting the Arduino system to PIC devices - unless you are a seller of PIC devices.
