I am using an Arduino UNO R3 to verify+upload an empty sketch. It should just upload the sketch, that essentially does nothing. However, the message below is what I get. Any hints why this happens?? Thanks in advance, AA

void setup() {
// put your setup code here, to run once:
}
void loop() {
// put your main code here, to run repeatedly:
}
The program actually uploaded consists of the standard initialization of the timers and the ADC to prepare for millis(), micros(), analogWrite() and analogRead(), followed by your function setup(), which is empty, and will enter an infinite loop executing your function loop(), also empty.
The last line: avrdude done. Thank you. means the sketch is uploaded normally and your board is now executing your program, that does nothing.
Only if it's the last line This is an attempt to upload a sketch to a Mega while the selected board is a Nano (IDE 2.x)

This was purely done to demonstrated that avrdude done. Thank you. is not the whole story
It's not really the processor, it's the bootloader. This demonstrates uploading to an Uno with the Nano as the board (using old bootloader); same processor
