Arduino Uno - Blink

I have the Arduino Uno. Just bought it last week. This is my first time working with anything like this.

I've gotten everything downloaded correctly. Have undone it all and re-downloaded, have checked all troubleshooting issues...BUT YET when I try to upload the blink program it just gives me an error.

I have attached a Screen Print of the message I'm getting to give you an idea of what's happening. Do I have a bad unit? IF I need to start all over again, how do I make sure I've deleted everything I've downloaded to assure I start with a clean slate?

arduiono error.docx (158 KB)

I have not opened the docx file so i am commenting without seeing it.

Did you select the right Arduino from the menu and did you install the windows drivers for the USB port.
Please check this first.

That was covered in the "troubleshooting section", so yes, I did check all of these things.

have checked all troubleshooting issues... Do I have a bad unit?

If you truly feel that you have tried everything in the Troubleshooting section then the only logical conclusion is that the board is defective.

Or a faulty USB cable.

Error message is the usual 0x14, 0x51 error.

Try holding the reset pin down until the message at the bottom says

"downloading xxxx bytes of 32,xxx",

then release it.

What is your Atmega8u2 firmware release ?
Rev 000 is known bugged since dec 2010.
To upgrade in rev 001 see :

Be carrefull if you have an arduino UNO R2 the pictures are for R1 version, in R2 the components have moved.
The official site have not still been updated ! :0

See on the French forum : http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/topic,71619.0.html to have updated pictures.
You can see first for R1 version and at the end for the R2 version.
NB R2 version -> the pictures are for an SMD arduino but components are in the good position.

I realize the update without to sold the 10k resistor and now all the problems disappear.
OS = debian testing
dfu-programmer 5.11

Thanks guys, from what I read the Arduino Uno doesn't have a "reset" button & I do have the rev 0001 so neither of those were the issues :frowning:

Thanks for the suggestions though

'from what you've read?'. See for yourself, it should have a reset button!
My Uno has and I believe it is a R1 board.
Perhaps you can post a photo of it.
I still suspect your USB/serial port. In device/hardware manager can you see the Uno?
