Arduino Uno blocks OSX el Capitan Start up

Hello,

I'm working in a project that needs to have Arduino Uno plug to the USB of a Mac Mini and restart everyday.

The problem comes when restarting OSX because it get block and nothing goes further than a white screen.

Do you have any Idea what can be and how to preven this problem?

Best regards,
Gonzalo

Please be more specific. As I understood, this happens:

  • your Mac starts normal if Arduino is not connected
  • your Mac only shows a white screen if Arduino is connected. Only startup chime, no Apple logo

Correct so far?

Which version of OSX are you using?

Which USB-serial chip is on your Uno?

There is a problem with the stock CH340 driver and MacOS Sierra, maybe that could be a cause.

Hi,

Yes:

My Mac starts normal if Arduino is not connected
My Mac only shows a white screen if Arduino is connected. Only startup chime, no Apple logo ← Just a white sreem on startup

I’m using OSX El Capitan 10.11.6

Oops, I should have seed the thread title. Then it's not likely to be the CH340 driver issue I'm thinking of.

Any Idea what can be?

I forgot to say that the problem is with an Arduino Uno R3 original one.

this is strange. Have you tried the Uno on another computer (PC or Mac)?

Is there a difference if it is connected through an external hub or not?

Is it a Geniune Arduino with a 16u2 chip for usb to serial?

For what it's worth, I have several Mac models I keep Arduino Unos plugged into, no boot problems.

Hi,

No, I tried in different hubs and the problem happens in all of them.

Yes, I have test with different models: Arduino Uno R3 (original), Arduino Uno R3 (clone).

Hi,

I keep trying some test to fix this problem.

I have test start up with Arduino Mega and Leonardo, the result is that Arduino Mega didn't let system start and with Leonardo yes it let OSX start.

Any guess?
