Arduino Uno can not upload sketch

I am using windows 10 64 bit and am running arduino Uno which is completely unable to upload sketch.

Earlier I had been using the Uno to upload to an atmega328p on breadboard (which required that I set the board as Arduino Duemilanove or Diecimila).

Now no upload is possible on the Uno when I set the board to Uno and attempts to upload to the Uno generated the message below:

avrdude done.  Thank you.

Problem uploading to board.  See http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#upload for suggestions.

This is not a direct answer but it solved the problem I had. What I wanted was a way to upload programs to a breadboard.

So I found that Nick Gammon's tools really helped me a lot - GitHub - nickgammon/arduino_sketches: Publicly-released sketches for the Arduino microprocessor
I found that I could install to the breadboard (which has an Atmega328p u microcontroller) just by connecting my Arduino and uploading the sketch normally. The Arduino does all the rest. Nick Probably explains it better, so I advise checking him out.
