Arduino UNO getting disconnected from PC after sometime.

Hi,

i bought a new arduino Uno board. When i turn on the board the LED at pin13 is blinking. If i connect the board to my PC using the cable which was provided with board ,the board is not getting detected =(.Then i used the a different USB cable by which the board was detected :~. I installed the drivers and everthing and was working fine. Then i observed that if i keep the board connected to PC, the board use to get automatically disconnected from PC with the power LED on the board getting dimm and the COM Port gets disabled :~. To make the board detect again i have to give power reset to the board
Kindly tell me if there is problem with microcontroller IC or the bootloader in IC or my PC usb port. The cable which was provided to me with Arduino uno was also tested by me in shop from where i bought the kit, its working fine there.

microcontroller IC:ATmega 328. Windows Version: XP ServicePack 2.

Where did you buy the board?

From a shop named Visha Electronics in Mumbai

Other than the USB cable, is anything connected to the board?

Tried with connecting external powersupply and connecting USB same problem was there.Just connecting USB cable, same problem observed. Now nothing is connected to board except USB cable.

The Arduino IDE version i am using is 1.0.1 while the shop where i tested is using Arduino IDE 0023 version. Can this be the problem?

The symptoms indicate the board or your USB port are defective.

ok, thanks. But why the board is not getting detected with cable provided with arduino and able to detect with the new USB cable.

Defective cable? Loose connector? You have the cable so only you can answer that question. The rest of us can only speculate.

Thanks for replies. I will change the board ,IC,the cable and try to find the defect. Get back to u again. Thanks coding again
