Arduino Uno Heat Generation

Hi All,

New guy here -- I'm in the process of developing a cooling system and have started calculating the heat generation within the system. Does anyone know how much heat the Arduino Uno generates? If not, a ballpark figure will suffice for the time being. Thanks in advance.

Depends on the power source. USB from computer, 5V/500mA is supplied, so 2.5W max.

9V from external source at 500mA? 4V, 500mA is dissipated just as heat in the regulator. 12V, even worse.

So, very situation dependent.

The arduino itself consumes about 40mA so that at 5V gives you 0.2W. But as cross roads says the bulk of the power is from the regulator.

Thanks so much for the info, it’s much appreciated!
