Arduino UNO Mac OS 10.6.8 (error compiling)

Hey guys,

I just purchased an Arduino Uno chip and I am not entirely certain it is a real Arduino made in Italy. I purchased it on Amazon for about $19.00 and it shipped from Hong Kong, China. I purchased this to run a circuit for an Iron man helmet I intend to motorize. As far as I know the unit is working properly all lights are activating as they should be per the tatorials I have read through. I run into problems during the (upload) portion I get this message.

I see, please excuse my ignorance here this is literally my first time booting it up. I was trying to follow the instructions per Arduino, so what your saying is I have to put a sketch up before I click ‘upload’? Thanks for your help btw.
