Arduino uno not communicating with ada fruit finger print sensor

I am having trouble getting my arduino uno to communicate with our finger print sensor. The code says "Finger sensor not found :(". The sensor is flashing but I am not sure if that indicates that it's working if it means that they're communicating. This is for our school engineering project, Thanks!

Sounds like it's not connected properly. Check all connections.

If using I2C, check that pullups are in place. If using serial, try swapping TX and RX. I have barely better than random chance success getting those right when connecting stuff up on the bench.

I tried that and it didn't seem to help, nothing changed. Do you think it has something to do with the bread board?
