Until recently I have been using the uno r3 just fine but a few days ago I tried to upload a sketch and It failed to upload. the board was disconnected but still receiving power. I restarted my laptop which is running windows 11. when I went to select my board in the Arduino 2.3.4 ide and try again. I saw there were no ports discovered. I checked device manager and there was no devices detected. No unknown device nor anything indicating something was connected to the port. I know I have the right type of cord as I have uploaded sketches just fine before and I tried a different cord as well and got the same result. I'm lost as to what could be causing this.
Unplug the Arduino, power down the computer competely and restart it. Once it has finished booting, try plugging the Arduino back in and see if it is recognized.
Note which, if any, LEDs on the Arduino are lit.
Tried it with no success. Nothing is being listed in device manager. But the uno is still receiving power, I can see the green light and the orange light flashes accordingly when I press the reset button on the uno. Also I just tested my ports on my laptop and I believe they are still operable as I can still both upload and download files from a usb.
Did you make certain that you have a functional data USB cable, and not a charger USB cable?
If so, and you have a genuine Arduino Uno R3, then it sounds like something is wrong with the 16U2 USB to serial converter. That could be more completely diagnosed with an ISP programmer.
I had bought a cord for a astrophotograhy rig, from Onn. it's stated as being for data transfer, and its a 2.0. I don't have a genuine Arduino Uno r3. I realized it was too late when I bought it but does have the 16U2 and up until now it has worked fine. So it is likely the converter. Do you know any fixes beyond getting a new board.
You can try to burn the firmware of the 16U2 using Atmel flip or a programmer. See https://docs.arduino.cc/retired/hacking/software/DFUProgramming8U2/
