Arduino UNO R3 not recognized by Windows

So I've had my Arduino UNO for awhile (I received it as a gift), but have not been able to play with it until today. I plugged it in and.. I get "Unknown Device"

Device Status
"This device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources. (Code 29)"

I tried 3 different cables, all three had the same issue. I plugged in power and tried to plug in the USB, but it still had the same issue.

I tried to reset the board, but it didn't do anything.

I tried to install the drivers in the drivers folder and got this:
"Windows determined drivers were up to date"

I selected the option of "have a CD.." and got the following:
"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems."

I try to upload a sketch and get syncing errors.

Please help me, this is frustrating me and I was really excited to work on projects.. but this isn't working out.

I got the Arduino from JamesCo which is a reputable electronics seller.

Which version of Windows?
Which version of IDE?
Which version of Uno?

Windows 7, Arduino 1.0.6, UNO R3.

Help please :frowning:

Where did you get the R3 from, and what does it say on the USB to serial converter ship?

Have you checked to see what device is listed in device manager when you plug it in?
