i was updating the firmware on device to get better wifi connectivity and confirm the update happened the first time i tried, but i accidentally put it on the ISCP ground and the one just above it on the 3 pin side.
the firmware uploaded but now the device goes into a bootloop or starts up then shuts down. nothing i do will reset it to a functional state, am i screwed?
negative, it has gotten worse since posting that. i tried to reflash the firmware thinking it might have screwed up somehow and even with the 2 pins grounded out the usb connects for 10 seconds then disconnects so i cant even reflash
from what i can see when i plug it in now. the power light turns on. the RX light turns on solid, then the usb connection drops. if it does stay long enough and i try to run the flash it will sometimes get to 80%ish and the serial connection drops and the arduino usb connection drops and the device restarts.
so im assuming its all screwed up now and i just need to get a new one
ya, i restarted my pc, tried it on a linux box, it is all dead i think. ill ask for a replacement but i doubt i get it. thanks for the help troubleshooting.
ill have to order a new one and try not to make the same mistakes
I just made the same mistake as you but in my case, I can hear the device disconnect sound every 10 seconds, but it is still connected in Device Manager, and its Bus reported device description is "USB JTAG/serial debug unit". Flashing using unor4wifi-update also did not work. Then I tried espflash.py from https://docs.arduino.cc/tutorials/uno-r4-wifi/esp32-upload/ and it finally worked for me.
