is the upcoming Arduino WiFi Shield 101 "compatible" with the Zero
in regards of 5V/3,3V I/O-voltage differences ?
I'll bet it uses the IOREF pin to detect the voltage of the board it is plugged into.

Yes it is!
So it uses IOREF to detect the host's voltage?
yes it uses a bidirectional level translator and the reference voltage of one side is connected to IOREF
does anybody knows something new about this shield ?
some days ago:
the product-page was taken away from arduino.cc
and the product was taken out of the usa store http://store-usa.arduino.cc/products/asx00001

here is written that it should be available at the 25. of June 2015

b.t.w:
in the same blogpost it is mentioned, that the "Arduino Yún Shield" should be available at the 25. of June 2015,
but this shield is deleted completely from every arduino website,
it's even not shown at all within the actual products page --> https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Products
(in the meantime you can buy from 3rd-party (chinese) manufacturers --> http://www.exp-tech.de/dragino-yun-shield?___store=en)
