arduino Wifi Shield with HDG204-chip - ad-hoc-connection or s.th. similar

Hi there,

if I am not mistaken, the arduino Wifi Shield (with HDG204-chip) does not support ad-hoc wireless connections? I did not find anything concerning this topic in the official descriptions, but some discussions on the internet indicate it is that way. Is that right?

Then my problem is: I already bought three of those Wifi-Shields because I was told so. Now I need to connect them to a laptop and I won't have any available wireless-network at the site. It would be nice not to need any further hardware than the laptop and the arduinos as the system will be used at different locations and has to be mobile. Is there any feasible workaround or do I really have to buy an additional WLAN-router?

Thank you for your help!

This question should be posted to the networking section on this forum, not the Project Guidance.

I think its been asked before, have you searched the site ?

Ok, sorry, I wasn't sure which of the two topics to use. I'll ask in the other one as well.
I didn't find any satisfying topic in the search options. At least not concerning some workaround without having to buy a different Wifi Shield (which I am not allowed). I hope I didn't overlook it.
