Arduino Wireless

Essentially I would like to implement some sort of wireless communication with the arduino. Is there anyway the arduino can take input from a sensor and send the data over a wireless network to a machine? I'm sure this would require a separate program on the machine that is gathering the data, however I'm concerned right now about the hardware aspect. Could I just use an ethernet shield and connect a wireless adapter to it? Any other ideas on how to implement such a thing?

i've heard that you can use a fonera's serial port to send data through its wifi. perhaps thats an option. also, wireless gaming adapters might be good enough.

Have you read any of the previous posts on the forum on this subject? http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=wifi+site%3Aarduino.cc

Its been covered quite a bit.

My initial idea was an ethernet shield with a wireless gaming adapter. And thatnks Gordon, I had done some searching but not so much on arduino.cc. I appreciate it.
