Arduino with Closed Loop JMC IHS60 Motor

Hey,
for a project I try to control an Integrated Stepper Motor (IHSS60-36-30 with an Analog Input (Poti). It basicly works but I think I reach the limits of the arduino I/O Pins. The Motor has 800 Steps/rev to 40000 Steps/rev. I used the AccelStepper library which already says that the steps per seconds the arduino can send to the Motor is limited. Is there anyway maybe with an external board to reach more steps per second and run the motor faster?

Go for a controller running faster than the average Ardiino.
