Arduino with Stepper Motor

I am using an Arduino Duemilanove with an Adafruit motorshield.
I'm trying to drive a 5V stepper motor using the example code
on the Adafruit website. It seems straight forward enough... but
I get no motion.

My motor is a 5-wire (unipolar, I think) stepper. Nearly everything
I read says the common wire should be connected to power.
However, the Adafruit site says it should be connected to ground.
When I do attempt to connect it to power, the motor quivers in place,
but still no motion. I could use any help anyone can give.

pyanik.

Here is a great site to help you discover how to wire your stepper motor:

Hope this helps you out!

I read says the common wire should be connected to power.
However, the Adafruit site says it should be connected to ground.

The common wire should be connected to the power -ve AND the Arduino ground.

The negative terminal of the power supply is also sometimes called 0V, or Ground.

Thanks to all for the advice.
I have gotten the stepper to work.
Newbie that I am - had connected the
coils in an inappropriate order and also
failed to notice that the stepper motor
requires an external dc supply.
