if you combine an Arduino Zero with the upcoming "Wifi shield 101" you will be enabled to do some powerful wireless applications, I think...
(IoT... whoooooo ...)
Atmel sells this combination now in a miniaturized format [footprint: 33.9 x 14.9mm] with integrated PCB-antenna (see pic in attachment):

they are quite expensive, but i think the combination is quite cool:
you get a cortex-M0+ (SAMD21G18A 256kB) with an Atmel ATWINC1500 WiFi controller...
I think a better deal than Zero and WiFi shield. The WiFi shield 101 was supposed to be released June 25, as was the Yun shield. What's up with that?
A Zero is $50, and the current wifi shield is GONE! Where did it go?

I think you can not compare this directly.
How do you connect "things" to the "ATSAMW25" ?
It is simply not possible without some kind of "mainboard", cause the "ATSAMW25" is a SMC mountable device only (intended for reflow soldering).
You can even not use it on a breadboard ...

Dirk67:
now Arduino announces just the same (but with pin headers & Li-Po charging)

(same as the ATSAMW25-MR210PB Board from Atmel)
