Arduino2009 TX-RX-RTS-CTS serial communication?

hi, i'm developing a university thesis project in the ZigBee area. my Arduino should have an Ethernet Shield and a ZigBee module. for what i got, XBee shield does not have the network/security layer software, so i was considering an Aurel XTR-ZB1 module (it sould work out-of-the-box without software). am i wrong on this?

now the main issue: the Aurel module communicates by the TX - RX - RTS - CTS pins. what kind of serial communicaiton does Arduino offer to get these 4 pins? TTL has only 2 pins (0 and 1). Should I use the software serial SPI? is it fast enough? can I use it and the Ethernet shield at the same time? :-/

thank you!

i realized i can't use the Ethernet shield and the serial SPI for my module at the same time...

so i need a way to communicate with the TX - RX - RTS - CTS pins of the Aurel ZigBee module. again, what kind of serial communicaiton does Arduino offer to get these 4 pins? TTL has only 2 pins (0 and 1).

I think you’ll need a chip like the MAX3232 to do that.

Here is one I’ve used: http://www.nkcelectronics.com/rs232-to-ttl-3v--55v-convert232356.html

oh good, thank you very much!

the Aurel zigbee module communicates at 38400 bps. command words are long up to 21 byte, but i don't know the internal buffer size.

if anyone changed the library whithin the same speed rate specification i would appreciate a notification.

thank you again.
